Each year 6-8 million pets enter shelters, and an estimated 3-4 million are euthanized -- simply because they do not have a loving home.

When PetSmart, Inc. was established in 1988, its founders made a conscious decision not to sell dogs and cats. Instead, they allocated space in their stores for pet adoption agencies to utilize to help address pet overpopulation.

PetSmart Charities, Inc., was established in 1994 as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to champion the cause of saving the lives of homeless pets.
